Christmas Eve is coming closer, and slowly the gifts are wrapped. We show you a few ways how you can wrap the gifts for your loved ones sustainably and plastic-free at Christmas.
The most beautiful thing right after the bright eyes when unpacking is the anticipation of this moment when wrapping.
But what is so beautifully prepared for this moment causes a lot of colorful, glittery garbage from bows and glitter paper per household.
However, the packaging is not only sustainable and still stylish but also completely plastic-free.
For example, you can give smaller gifts like homemade creams, treats, or our toothbrush tablets in a screw-top jar. These are a regular part of grocery shopping anyway, can be cleaned and reused by the recipient after using your gift.
The same goes for cotton bags, which are great for shopping for vegetables and fruit and avoiding plastic waste in the supermarket afterward.
And while we're in the kitchen: Beeswax wipes are a sustainable yet functional gift "paper" for small surprises and treats. You can even make them yourself from organic cotton, fabric scraps and beeswax.
Speaking of fabric scraps: the colorful scraps are great decoration and packaging material at Christmas.
Old sheet music or newspaper are also decorative and can be processed like wrapping paper. You can then enhance your gift with cotton ribbons and small branches of fir and rosehip.
Small boxes made of bamboo, wheatgrass, or similar are also sustainable gift packaging that can be reused afterward, protect the environment, and look decorative under the Christmas tree.
As you can see, with a little bit of creativity, it's easy to use sustainable packaging and avoid unnecessary waste.
