What science says
Laboratory tests, clinical studies, field studies: we have done our homework.
Are there any studies that prove the effectiveness of Denttabs?
We have been asked this question very often by our customers in recent years. We are happy to inform you: Yes, Denttabs toothpaste tabs are a regularly researched oral hygiene product.
Our effect is scientifically proven
Let's talk straight
Fluoride availability, remineralization, plaque reduction, abrasiveness: Why are the above points essential for your dental health? In the following, we speak straightforwardly and provide straight answers to complex questions.
Fluoride in dental care
Why do we need fluoride for teeth?
Simply put: Fluoride forms a kind of protective film around your teeth and protects them from caries. To better grasp fluoride, it helps to understand how tooth decay occurs in the first place:
Our teeth are made up of enamel, dentin and dental cement. Enamel is the hardest substance in the human body and is composed mainly of calcium and phosphate. Our teeth are surrounded by a biofilm (plaque) that contains numerous microorganisms. These bacteria break down carbohydrates from food into acids. The acids can damage the tooth because they dissolve calcium and phosphate from the enamel, thus softening it. Fluoride counteracts this. It improves the remineralization of the teeth by helping to reincorporate the minerals into the tooth lattice. It also builds up the enamel and makes it more resistant to acids. As a result, the tooth enamel regains an intact surface.
What is the fluoride content in the tabs?
We offer two different fluoride proportions in Denttabs: The fluoride content in the Mint tabs is 1450 ppm (parts per million). Strawberry tabs have a fluoride content of 500 ppm, which has been adapted for children. Both values are guideline values that are recommended and internationally recognized.
How does the fluoride in the toothpaste tabs work?
The fluoride in the tab is proven to dissolve very quickly and only in saliva and can thus repair the affected areas on the teeth.
Remineralization
What does remineralization mean?
Remineralization means "rebuilding of minerals." Our teeth are surrounded by a biofilm (plaque) that contains numerous microorganisms. Many types of bacteria metabolize short-chain carbohydrates from food into acids. The acids harm the tooth because they dissolve calcium and phosphate from the enamel, softening it. Remineralization can stop or even repair caries formation in the early stages. This is where our saliva plays a very important role: it consists of water, proteins and minerals, such as calcium and phosphate. Demineralized teeth, or damaged teeth, can insert these minerals like small building blocks into decalcified (demineralized) areas, maintaining protective enamel. Fluoride accelerates this process. Denttabs toothpaste tabs with fluoride have an optimal remineralization potential, as the fluoride in the tablet has been proven to dissolve very quickly and only in saliva, repairing the affected areas on the teeth. Denttabs allow the tooth to rebuild and recover.
Removal of plaque and abrasiveness
How does Denttabs clean my teeth?
Denttabs works with a unique principle: the polishing effect. This works with cellulose, which can polish your teeth ultra-smooth up to the interdental spaces. Therefore, new particles can roll off the tooth surfaces. Coatings, also known as plaque, can practically never form on polished surfaces. A clinical study confirmed that Denttabs achieved significant plaque reduction after 14 to 21 days.
What does abrasiveness mean?
Abrasivity expresses how much a dental care product wears down or abrades the tooth. It is made measurable by the RDA value (RDA = Radioactive dentin abrasion), which is taken as a guide value for the cleaning effect. Abrasive dental care products aim to remove plaque without attacking the enamel. So, when buying your dental care product, make sure that they do not contain abrasives or surfactants that are too aggressive.
What is the abrasion value of Denttabs?
The abrasion value, also called RDA value, is 21 for Denttabs, which stands for very low abrasiveness. Silica and small amounts of the gentle surfactant sodium lauroyl glutamate ensure the low abrasiveness and an equally desirable reduced foaming.
But that doesn't mean we have a lower cleansing effect. In a clinically controlled study, three differently abrasive toothpastes were compared: A whitening toothpaste with an RDA of 162, a tooth gel with an RDA of 0, and Denttabs with an RDA of 35 (at the time, a value of 35 was estimated; in 2021, an RDA of 21 was calculated for Denttabs by the consumer organization Consumentenbond from the Netherlands). The cleaning performance achieved across all measured tooth surfaces averaged just over 50% for all three toothpastes (toothpaste: 50.9%, Denttabs: 54.4%, tooth gel: 51.6%). Denttabs thus achieved the best cleaning performance. A common perception is that plaque can be cleaned away with a high level of abrasiveness. The study proved the opposite.
