Packing
Did you know that around 1.5 billion toothpaste tubes end up in the trash worldwide every month? As a rule, they are not recycled. In Germany, they are incinerated. In addition, up to 14% toothpaste residue remains in the tube.
Our toothpaste tablets can be used right down to the last tablet. One bag of toothpaste tablets is equivalent to two tubes of toothpaste and lasts for 2 months. We save 80% on packaging compared to conventional toothpaste and have already been able to save several million plastic tubes.
Denttabs packaging consists of 45% paper and 55% bio-film (inside). The bio-film, in turn, is composed of a polymer layer that is 63% polylactide (PLA based on corn starch) and 37% PBAT polymer. The remainder of the packaging is made up of the adhesive (5%) and a ceramic water vapor barrier (<1%). Both PLA and PBAT are biodegradable and industrially compostable. This means that the packaging has been shown to decompose under certain conditions (temperature, moisture, and oxygenation). Denttabs packaging is therefore also certified for industrial compost, meaning that it has been proven to degrade 90% in industrial compost after 90 days under the required composting conditions. Our packaging has been awarded the Cosmos seal according to BDHI for certified natural cosmetics.
We are constantly working on even better solutions for our products.
CO2
We have a lightweight, environmentally friendly packaging with a low volume and short as well as efficient transport routes. For the transportation and storage of our toothpaste tablets, we have made a conscious decision not to put new packaging material into circulation. We use steel drums instead of cardboard boxes for this purpose. These are of course returned and reused.
Few ingredients make it much easier to control the purchase of raw materials We work with local suppliers from the EU, who themselves have a clear social and environmental transparency and are happy to work with us. A transparent supply chain is our big goal. We are currently working hard to be able to tell you as customers more about our supply chain and to make it more open. But this still needs a little time.
(Waste) water
Our Denttabs toothbrush tablets are water-free. This means you save an important resource and can do without unnecessary additives that are potentially critical for the body and nature. Our toothbrush tablets are great for on the go and can be spit out into nature without worry. (You shouldn't do that with toothpaste.) With our toothbrush tablets, no potentially harmful substances enter our wastewater during daily dental care either.
Bamboo
We have chosen the raw material bamboo. This is perfect for oral care due to its antibacterial and odor-resistant properties. We cooperate here with the manufacturer @Bambuu, which donates 10% of its profits to a social project.
Currently, we still source the toothbrushes from China. The transport of bamboo to Europe causes large amounts of harmful greenhouse gases. Ultimately, we will have to wait and see how the still small market develops. Nevertheless, due to its extremely fast growth and high CO2 storage capacity, bamboo is in principle more sustainable than the wood of most trees. Unlike most conventional plastics, bamboo is biodegradable. Bamboo toothbrushes emit 6x less Co2 equivalent than a plastic toothbrush. Bamboo does not require pesticides or fertilizers.
