Did you know that you can make deodorants quickly, easily and guaranteed plastic-free at home? We have a DIY for you on how to make deodorant cream yourself. The Deodorant cream comes without plastic, artificial fragrance, – colorings and preservatives.

Deodorant stick or spray – our desire for a good smell is not always the best for our skin and certainly not for the environment. Many deodorants contain not only alcohol but also artificial fragrances and preservatives, many antiperspirants (not equivalent to deodorants) also aluminum. Those who suffer from sensitive skin will often notice that the underarm skin is reddened, feels dry and irritated, and sometimes burns. The skin in the underarm area is particularly thin and sensitive, due to the many sweating and friction caused by wearing clothes, shaving and the application of deodorants and antiperspirants, the skin is additionally irritated. It quickly creates a hypersensitivity to conventional deodorants and antiperspirants.

Homemade deodorants, which you can make in just a few minutes and with just a few ingredients at home, are a very good alternative.

The DIY deo creames are easy to distribute on the skin, contain particularly nourishing ingredients and are especially recommended for sensitive skin, as they contain no artificial preservatives or dyes.

For about 90ml DIY Deodorant Cream you need:

30 grams shea butter
40 grams coconut oil
10 grams cornstarch
10 grams baking soda
6 drops of tea tree essential oil (antibacterial)

optional: 6 drops of essential oil of your choice (eg lemon, lavender)

  • a bowl for preparation
  • a kitchen scale
  • a spoon for mixing
  • a container with a lid to store your deodorant cream

Step 1: Carefully melt the coconut oil and shea butter in a microwave oven for approximately 20-30 seconds at 600 watts or in a water bath. Make sure the oils do not get too hot.

Step 2: Stir the oils together to form a homogeneous mass. Then add to the still liquid oils, the soda, the food starche and the essential oils of tea tree and optionally the scent of your choice.

Step 3: When all the ingredients are mixed, fill the liquid cream into a suitable, closable container and place the cream in the fridge to cool down.

Hints: Tea tree oil has an antibacterial effect and naturally reduces odor-causing bacteria. When using essential oils, make sure that they are not simple fragrance oils. These are not suitable for cosmetic products. Also, you should pay attention to the purity and origin when buying. Also think about organic and sustainability here. Since you can apply the oils very versatile and durable, pay attention to the quality. Essential oils should be used sparingly as they also enter the water and, although of course, do not belong to the environment in larger quantities. Sheabutter should be pure, unrefined and food grade. Then you can use them perfectly for your cosmetics and even for consumption. The finished deodorant cream of soda and shea butter remains pleasantly pasty and can be easily removed and distributed on the skin. Shea butter and coconut oil care for the sensitive skin in the underarm area, while the soda naturally keeps the armpit dry and prevents odors.

We wish you a lot of fun with the self-maker and the application of your own deodorant cream.
